Vieux Philippe
was born in 1932 in Port-au-Prince. He finished his elementary school at College Jean-Jacques Dessalines, and completed high school at College de Port-au-Prince. He was independent, quiet, and a gentleman of unconventional habits. When young, he gave up dancing for painting. His first water color exhibit at the Centre d’Art attracted the notice of collectors. Later under advice of Dewitt Peters and Miss Francine Murat, he started with oil painting. His hobbies were movies, reading, theatre, and classical music.
