Artist and Painting

Pinchinat, Max
was born 1925 in Port-au-Prince. He attended Military School at the insistence of his Senator father, emerging as lieutenant in 1945. Switching to law school he took up a dare while sketching an American classmate and enrolled in the newly formed Centre d’Art. He started with abstract and cubist painting, winning a Gold medal at a local International exhibit. In 1951 a French scholarship to Paris was followed by another from the Haitian government. In Paris he laboriously retraced the evolution of painting clinging to Picasso, Matisse, cubism, and African sculpture on white canvas. He visited Haiti in 1956-1957 and later lived in Paris. A became a published poet and author. Pinchinat has been exhibited locally, all over Europe, and the U.S.
