Artist and Painting

Olivier Raymond
was born in 1943 in Port-au-Prince. After a brief study at the Louis Joseph Janvier School, Olivier at sixteen entered and won a Mother’s Day competition at French Institute in Haiti. In the same year at a UNESCO exhibit he again won first prize over 3,210 competitors. Encouraged by his success, but penniless, he sought the patronage of Mr. Andre Galiano, proprietor of the Salon des Artists. An o-the-spot- sketch won over Mr. Galiano. Later, with material help from George Ramponeau, and an introduction to modern art by Mrs. V. Mangones in 1964, Olivier, exhibited in the Montreal Expo in 1967, as a devotee of cubism. His subjects appear to be objects (often pigeons) seen under different lights with kaleidoscopic colors that have become lighter and softer since July 1969.
