Lazard Luckner
was born in Port-au-Prince. His secondary studies were completed at College de Port-au-Prince. From 1945-1950 he studied painting and sculpture at the Art Center under the direction of the following instructors: Dewitt Peters, A. Mangones, Lucian Price, and Jason Seley. In 1951, he obtained a scholarship to study in Paris and lived there until 1953. After returning from Paris, he had an exhibit of his paintings at the French Institute in Mexico City, at the Institute Français d’Haiti, at Gallery Zegri in New York and at the Condado Beach Hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He was awarded the first prize in a contest sponsored by Pan American Airways, National du Tourisme, and by the Alcoa Steamship Co. He participated in group exhibits in Germany, Spain, Paris, Brazil, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, U.S., and Canada. In 1956, he founded “The Gallery Brochette”: His works form part of many private collections throughout the world. In January 1976 he had a one-man show at the Institute Français d’Haiti. He was exhibited on May 29, 1977 at the Pail Tobeson Multi-Media Center in Washington, D.C.
