Artist and Painting
Duffaut Prefet was born in 1923. This prolific primitive painter born and raised in mountainous Jacmel (south of Port-au-Prince), after receiving encouragement and paints from W. Krauss (US journalist), began to paint without seeing the work of other contemporaries in the capital. Typically he painted only three subjects: 1) Jacmel with its hairpin roads up cone-like mountains; 2) spider web with a golden spider; 3) priestess standing in a shrine or on a temple. A poet and a mystic with a powerful imaginative sense, his work is a product of his dreams. He is represented by a mural in the Episcopal Cathedral in Port-au-Prince.
